Roger Robinson's A Portable Paradise, which was awarded the T.S. Eliot Prize in 2019, carries a message of hope despite the serious themes it explores.

This collection deals both with social issues that concern present-day Britain, such as the Grenfell Tower Fire, and others which are historically relevant, like slavery and the Windrush. Intersecting with these are glimpses of parenthood and his son's health. The poems in this collection give us an insight into Robinson's belief that, although the horrors of  our world are very much real, there is a form of Paradise that exists inside human beings.
