This quiet detective classic tracks two detectives, Torigai and Mihara, who work together to reveal the truth behind a young couple’s apparent double-suicide. A suspected murderer is named early on and, in an effort to place the suspect at the crime scene, Mihara patiently traces and re-traces the train connections that could confirm his theory. While the story and style are calm and pared back, the intricacies of the plot and portrayal of post-war Japan creates a captivatingly tense atmosphere.
